A visit to Radevormwald
Stay of French and Swedish students in Radevormwald from
25th November to 3rd December 2009
In this first official meeting in the course of our Comenius partnership 26 students
from Lund, Sweden and 33 students from Châteaubriant, France visited
Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Radevormwald.
The official welcoming ceremony took place on Thursday, 26th November, in the assembly
hall and was accompanied by music and speeches all of which stressed the great importance
of this new co-operation between Lerbäckskolan Lund, Collège St. Joseph
Châteaubriant and Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium Radevormwald.
The program during the following days included taking part in school lessons, a town
rally, visits to local companies and a Kindergarten as well as trips to regional sights.
The Swedish students visited Neanderthal and Schloss Burg with their German partners and
the French went to Muenster with their hosts.
Trips to Cologne and Essen took place as well and were accompanied by the German,
Swedish and French teachers and headmasters.
The teachers and headmasters were also welcomed to Radevormwald by the town’s mayor
Dr. Josef Korsten, who showed a great interest in the exchange.
One important aspect of every Comenius partnership is project work, which took
place on several occasions during the guests’ stay.
In groups of mixed nationalities the students worked on different aspects of the
topic “Consumer behaviour in Sweden, France and Germany” and made posters,
power point presentations and other products on themes such as brand clothes, computer
games, Christmas traditions, etc.
On Wednesday, 2nd December, which was the final day of the visit, there was a big party
in THG’s new assembly hall. The different groups presented their results to the
other students, parents and teachers as well as the local press. The host families
had prepared something to eat and drink and the room had been nicely decorated with flags
and posters.
The prize-giving for the town rally also took place on this occasion and there
were performances of dancing, singing and music by the guests.
Some school bands played and finally there was a disco, which was really great and
memorable for everybody who was there.
This first meeting of the three partner schools was a real success and a great experience
for everybody involved. All the German students and their teachers are really looking
forward to visiting Châteaubriant or Lund in spring and it was quite sad to say
good-bye to our new friends after their ten-day-stay in Radevormwald.
